Amish Originals Furniture Co.: Miriam's Journal, May 6, 2009

May 6, 2009

Dear Journal,

We are now through with the month of April. May’s early garden is full and the strawberries are blooming. We have started to harvest the rhubarb. We also enjoy the various dishes made from it; rhubarb torte, pie, butter crunch, and punch. The lilacs and fruit trees are blooming also.

Our annual school picnic is now history. It’s a day enjoyed by both young and old. It’s a day that the children look forward to as then they don’t have to go to school anymore, until next term. The Moms look forward to it as then the children are at home to help with the spring work. All the families bring casseroles, sandwiches, desserts, and coffee. The teacher provides the drinks. After lunch, the ball game starts. Since it’s the eighth grader’s last year of school, they get the privilege of choosing the teams. The oldest man is usually the umpire. He happens to be the grandpa to many of the scholars in our school. he is also the bishop of our church district.

It’s the time of year when mushroom hunting is in full swing. We have found over 300 mushrooms in the past several days. We like mushrooms mixed with eggs, mushroom gravy, and fired for sandwiches. I like mine in a salad; after it’s fried, of course. : )

Spring is also the time of year when we like to clean another corner of our property. Every year since we’ve lived here, eighteen years, we did a little bit. I, myself, have only lived here 9 years. My husband’s first wife passed away at childbirth 9 years ago, but had had moved here just before their fifth child.

More on the subject later...

Miriam
