Amish Originals Furniture Co.: Family Game Night

As we were discussing this month’s eNews content, the topic of Family Game Night came up. It turns out everyone at Amish Originals Furniture Co. has time set aside for play and family activities.

Board and card game, online gaming, video exercise, video game, and jigsaw puzzle sales are all increasing by double-digit percentages. And, according to the American Library Association, visits to the local library have increased 11% in the past year.

As popular video yoga instructor Rodney Yee observes, “Even though they seem like hard times, they're reflective times. We can look at our lives and question what we value by what we're doing."

Board games enhance social, math, motor, language and cognitive skills, including creativity, memory, and planning. Game playing has proven helpful to children with autism and is effective against the onset of Alzheimer’s.

No matter our age, activities with friends and family, like game nights, are a great way for us to get to know each other, laugh, talk, play, bring back fond memories, and make new ones.

By the way, our favorite Family Game Night activities include: Yahtzee, Candyland, Wii, Othello, Trouble, Euchre, playing with baby dolls, Monopoly, Scattergories, and Pictionary.
