The following journal entry is a continuation of the wedding details begun in September.
Dear Journal,
I will continue with explaining what is the “Eck.”
Each bride has a choice of dinnerware they want. They have special glasses and silverware – different from the guests. Each bride has choice of color, shape, and size for the placemats and cushions which they make themselves. The cushions are used to sit on. (They are used later as throw pillows)
There are two fruit baskets with fresh fruit, two candy dishes filled with either nuts or candy, a cake, and six nameplates in the “Eck”. The nameplates are made by the bride and/or bridegroom in any shape color, or design. In the case of each of our daughters’ weddings, the bride made them. Thanks to the teaching of Dad. They have the names of each of the six people in the Eck and the wedding date on them.
The food served to the Eck people is the same as served to the guests along with some extras. Marie chose to have a relish and fruit tray and a vegetable pizza. They always like to have something special.
After the noon meal is served, the wedding party opens the gifts and the older men sing. This is also the time that they cut the cake and box them for the cook and table waiters. Then they pass out the gifts, to the cook and the table waiters, as a thank you for making the wedding day a special day. We made the gifts in our shop – a rolling pin and a towel holder.
