We found a helpful article on the House Beautiful website about what top interior designers have done with their flat panel televisions:
Here are a few suggestions...
▪ For wall-mounting, consider an adjustable bracket.
▪ Set aside a media space and a conversation space.
▪ Take advantage of concealed storage for media components and cabling.
▪ It is important to know what you think the focal point is for your space – it might not always be the TV.
▪ Be aware of where your seating is relative to the TV.
▪ Are you placing the flat panel above the fireplace? It looks great, but there’s much to consider, like comfortable viewing and additional carpentry.
▪ No matter the age of your house, the neutral flat panel can feel like a natural part of vintage features and architecture.
▪ Consider recessing the flat panel and covering it with sliding doors or sliding art.
▪ Think about all the places in the room where you sit and would like to watch TV (do you want to stretch out on the sofa, but also see the TV when you're in your workspace?).
▪ Use a bench for a footed flat panel and create a personal vignette (wall, floor, bench surface) around it.
▪ Use a display stand or flat panel easel.
▪ Consider a dark background (even black) for the space where your flat panel hangs.
▪ A console beneath a mounted flat panel makes a great sideboard for get togethers.
